OPS computer does not start: initial checks
A safe sequence of external checks when an OPS computer does not power on, is not detected by the display, freezes during startup or produces no image.
What is an OPS computer
OPS is a removable computer module installed in a dedicated slot in an interactive display. It receives power and sends video through an internal connector. The OPS and the display's built-in system operate independently, so it is important to identify the mode in which the fault occurs.
Record the exact symptom
- The display works in built-in mode, but the screen remains blank when OPS is selected.
- The OPS indicator or fan does not start after the display is powered on.
- The operating-system logo appears, then startup stops or repeats.
- The image disappears, interference appears or the module shuts down after warming up.
- USB, network, audio or touch fails only in OPS mode.
Checks without disassembly
- Confirm that OPS or PC is selected as the source and that the display's built-in system still works.
- Power the display off completely, disconnect it from the mains and wait at least 10 minutes before removing or installing the OPS.
- Inspect the accessible connector area and module mounting. Do not force the OPS into the slot or power on the display if the module is misaligned.
- Disconnect external USB devices, the network cable and other peripherals from the OPS, then try again.
- If the manufacturer permits using a separate OPS video output, test it with a working monitor and record the result.
What is checked during diagnostics
- OPS power from the display, the internal connector and power-on circuits.
- SSD or eMMC storage, RAM and startup progress.
- Cooling system, processor temperature and thermal interface condition.
- Main board, BIOS/UEFI, video outputs, USB, network and audio.
- Compatibility of the OPS model with the display and internal interface pinout.
When to stop testing
Do not power the module on again if there is a burning smell, severe overheating, liquid exposure, connector damage or repeated protection trips. Never remove or install an OPS while power is connected.
Information for the technician
Provide the display and OPS models, indicator status, whether the fan and image are present, where startup stops and the result of testing built-in mode. Attach photos of labels and the connector, plus a short startup video.
